The Victims’ Commissioner’s role involves:
- Looking at key parts of the criminal justice system
- Attending conferences, workshops and events
- Contributing to consultations affecting victims and witnesses
- Meeting a range of victims and witness and victims’ organisations
Helen Newlove was given a peerage in the 2010 Dissolution Honours List and was first appointed as the new Victims Commissioner in December 2012 as post previously held by Louise Casey. The role requires her to liaise with ministers to offer advice on aspects of the Criminal Justice System that affect victims and perpetrators.
